So you’ve gotten your hair cut, died and love the new style. Your hairdresser makes it look amazing and you leave the salon feeling fabulous. But how do you recreate the same look at home? If you’re anything like me, you’ve got dry shampoo on hand and are googling “how to keep hair curled overnight” as you walk out of The Dye Lot. That’s where Hair 101 comes in!

With some lucky timing, I got the chance to attend Hair 101’s “The Basics” tutorial the day after my last cut. I’ve been working through all the looks we learned over the week, including a braided half-up top knot, beachy waves and a voluminous pony. Practice will make perfect, but It’s a nice change to know what I’m doing. Unlike all those YouTube tutorials I’ve watched, at Hair 101 Christina and Sheena are right beside you tailoring instructions to your specific hair or answering any questions.

Tutorials are held both at The Dye Lot and at Proper Hair Lounge in Vancouver, with prices ranging from $50 (for an adorable sounding father/daughter class) to $150 (which also includes a $99 professional curling iron) depending on the class. You’ll leave Hair101 with a nice swag bag of goodies to help you recreate the looks at home, and tons of new styles to play around with.  I really recommend checking one out – I honestly never thought my hair would look so Pinterest worthy!
